FRANKFORT, IL — The upcoming election is less than a week away, and early voting has already started. In Frankfort, one of the contested local races is the race for village trustee. There are three open positions on the board in the upcoming April 2 election. Margaret Farina is one of four candidates running for a position.

Farina lives in Frankfort with her husband Keith and their two children. She has a degree in political science from Northern Illinois University and a certificate of international studies from Northwestern University. She is a current member of the Frankfort Plan Commission and has previously served as a Frankfort Park District Commissioner.

Farina believes the most pressing issue facing the village is ensuring that tax dollars are used efficiently and economically.

"Frankfort residents pay the highest property taxes countywide, I’ll work for tax relief," she said. "In July, an 8 percent sales tax increase becomes effective; and it is estimated that $2.8 million will be generated annually to fund police and infrastructure. As trustee, I’ll ensure this revenue funds such areas as promised."

Other issues important to Farina are making neighborhoods safe, preserving the historic district, curbing spending and keeping taxes low, supporting economic development, and protecting open space.
