Mom Dies, 5 Kids Injured in I-57 Crash Tuesday
Passenger of car struck by the mom's van also in critical condition.

A mother was killed and five children were among those injured when a van and a car collided on Interstate 57 near the U.S. 30 exit in Matteson at about 2:15 Tuesday morning.
The 43-year-old mom was thrown from her van when it struck the car, State Police Sgt. Henry Spight told the Chicago Tribune. Lynette Shorter, of University Park, was taken to Franciscan St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields where she was in critical condition and transferred to Stroger Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 7:54 a.m.
The 22-year-old driver of the car is also in critical condition at St. James. The children were listed in stable condition.
