New Tiger University offers parent nights
District 157-C and FSP to host social media safety program as first of four parent nights

Tiger University, a new opportunity for Lincoln-Way area parents is being offered by Frankfort School District 157-C in collaboration with its Family School Partnership (FSP) organization. The new Tiger University will offer parent nights to provide information on a variety of topics that can empower parents to raise confident, educated children. All parent nights will be held at Hickory Creek Middle School, 22150 W. 116th Avenue in Frankfort.
A number of topics will be presented throughout the year. They will include a social media safety program, a workshop that will offer insight into the connection between food and behavior, a workshop that provides tips and strategies on teaching kids awareness of their emotions and reactions, and a program about managing challenging behaviors in the home.
The first program on social media safety “Safe, Smart & Social” will be presented on Thursday, October 29, at Hickory Creek Middle School from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. featuring Josh Ochs, author of “Light, Bright and Polite.” He combines his background in marketing at Disney and his love for technology to help teens use social media as a portfolio of positive accomplishments. He travels the nation speaking to over 30,000 kids each year sharing with them tips they can use to create a positive online presence. The 90 minute presentation for parents only will cover information on what apps are safe, what apps are a waste of time for teens, how to analyze Google results to see what others will find, how to bury bad Google results from other users with names similar to yours, examples of good and bad posts that colleges may find, and seven networks your kids need to use to shine online.
