House Badly Damaged in Fire on Spruce Drive

Neighboring departments from New Lenox, Tinley Park and Mokena helped fight a single-family home fire on Monday night in Frankfort. No one was injured.

No one was hurt in a fire that badly damaged a single-family home at 19949 S. Spruce Dr. in Frankfort on Monday, Jan. 2.

It took about one hour for firefighters to completely extinguish the flames that likely started in the lower back of the home at 4:59 p.m. and spread to the front, Battalion Chief Nick Peters said.

All five members of the Chudzik family were home during the fire and escaped without injury, Peters said.

Through charred openings in front of the house, investigators could be seen surveying the home — the yellow letters of their jackets floating against blackened rooms.

Peters described the inside of the home as "completely gutted" and said the family had made preparations to stay elsewhere.

Investigators believed the fire started in the lower living area of the house, though the cause remained under investigation as of 9 p.m. on Monday.
