Irene B. Gordan

Age 91, of Channahon, Illinois, passed away Monday, October 19, 2026.She was born December 4, 1934, in Joliet, IL, to the late Sophie (nee Janosica) and Joseph Tkaczyk. She was raised and educated in Joliet, attending St. Thaddeus Catholic Grade School and graduating with the Class of 1952 from Providence Catholic High School.

Irene was a devout Catholic and was very proud of her Polish Heritage. She was a great cook and extremely loyal to her family. Irene started her career as a secretary at Lewis University, followed by Argonne National Laboratory, a career that she loved and left to raise her children. Despite being frugal, Irene had bought a brand new 1964 Mustang, which she paid for in cash.

She received great joy from her grandchildren and her greatest accomplishment was that she passed on her Catholic Faith to her three boys and 16 grandchildren. She loved Snoopy and her Mom’s homemade bread. Irene will be remembered for her great sense of humor.

Irene is survived by her sons, John (Genevieve) Gordan II, Shane (Cori) Gordan, and Joel (Michelle) Gordan; grandchildren, Sophie (Dan) Hristov, John Gordan III, Lorraine, Joseph, Peter and Ben Gordan, Teal Gordan, Christina, Paul, Cecilia, Irena, Thomas, Michael, Marcus, Simon and Matthew Gordan; great-grandson, Arthur Hristov. Also surviving are her sisters, Dorothy (Gene) Nonnie and Betty (the late Ron) Lindsay as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gordan; an infant daughter, Maria Gordan, and three brothers, Bernie Tkaczyk, Bobby Tkaczyk and Raymond Tkaczyk in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Irene’s name can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N. Chicago St., Joliet, IL.

Visitation for Irene B. Gordan will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N. Chicago St., Joliet, IL, where a Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville, IL.
