Park District Asks For Resident Input On Windy Hill Playground

Construction would happen in late fall 2023, or spring 2024.

FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort Park District is planning improvements to Windy Hill Park and is asking residents for their input.

The park is along the Old Plank Road Trail and is used by those traveling to and from Route 30 via foot or bike, and residents of the subdivision, Park District Executive Director Gina Hassett told Patch.

The park district received a matching OSLAD grant for the project. The budget is $350,000, and half will be funded through the grant, according to the District website.

Hassett told Patch the park district has a replacement schedule for playgrounds, and hopes to replace playgrounds that are 20 years or older, or have maintenance issues.

Windy Hill playground was installed in 2002 by the developer of the subdivision, Hassett said.

"The playground at Windy Hill has a plastic barrier that is heaving and needs to be addressed," Hassett said. "The gazebo needs to be replaced, as it has seen better days."

The park district is asking for input on two designs that have been selected for the playground equipment.

Hassett said the playground submitted for the grant has a nature-based theme, and includes a play structure, swings, fitness equipment and benches with solar-powered charging stations.

According to the park district website, the project will go out to bid once the playground design is chosen. Construction would happen in late fall 2023, or spring 2024.

"The improvements will enhance the subdivision and bring new life to the park," Hassett said.
