Purple Heart Recipient Gets Hero's Welcome In Frankfort

Large crowds, including veteran groups and a school band, were part of a hero's welcome for First Lt. Phillip Lee of Frankfort Square.

FRANKFORT SQUARE, IL -- A Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient returned home to Frankfort Square to a raucous crowd of family, friends and others who wished to welcome home an American hero who recently completed a second term of service in the U.S. Army. First Lt. Phillip Lee told the Daily Southtown that the crowd of about 200 who gathered to welcome him home last week was "an absolute surprise."

"It's wonderful," he said. "I got ambushed. That's the first time it happened."
Lee, 33 returned home from "reintegration training" in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, which followed a nine-month Army deployment to Afghanistan that was his second stint serving the country.

Members of the Summit Hill Junior High band played patriotic music and several veteran support groups came in force to honor Lee, the son of another Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient from the Vietnam era.
