Donated bikes and bike parts can be in any condition, from brand new to beyond repair, according to the preserve. All bikes and bike parts will be given to Working Bikes, which refurbishes and distributes them locally and globally to those in need of an affordable and sustainable mode of transportation for work, school, community services, recreation and more.
Once the Recycle Your Bicycle program ends on Oct. 1, Working Bikes will come with trucks to pick up the donated bicycles and bike parts. The Forest Preserve has been collecting bikes for recycling/reuse since 2011.
