Rep. McDermed Announces Quarterly Senior Driving Seminars
State Representative Margo McDermed will host four senior driving seminars throughout the year
Frankfort, IL… State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) will provide four Senior Driving Seminars over the course of the year for older drivers looking to refresh their memory of the written driving test, a necessary step to renewing your license. Each two hour seminar will be taught by an instructor from the Secretary of State’s Office. The seminar will cover an overview of the contents of the Rules of the Road booklet and include a sample test. The seminars are offered free of charge.
“Being able to drive is an important part of maintaining independence for senior citizens,” explained Rep. McDermed. “I invite any and all senior citizens to these driving seminars, I know they will benefit greatly from this refresher course.”
The Illinois Secretary of State’s office imposes additional requirements and measures for senior drivers:

· Illinois drivers can renew their licenses for 4 years between ages 69 and 80.
· Until the age of 86 licenses drivers can renew for 2 years and after 87 years the license needs to be renewed annually.

· All drivers have to take a vision test.
· Drivers will be asked to take a written knowledge test every 8 years, unless they have no traffic violations. If your driving records indicate an accident, then you will need to pass a written and/or driving test.
· Drivers over 75 years have to take a road test at the time of renewal.
Rep. McDermed scheduled quarterly seminars, each at a different location across the 37th district to ensure that everyone wishing to participate has an opportunity to attend one of these informative events:
