Salon to Hold Benefit for Young Girl Who Suffered Stroke

"Brows and Buzz Cuts for Bella" at Aura Bella Salon in Frankfort will help the 2-year-old's family afford a handicap accessible minivan.

FRANKFORT, IL - Local businesses are teaming up with the Frankfort Lions Club to hold a benefit on Thursday to support a local family in their quest to purchase a handicap accessible van needed for a young Franfort girl who suffered a severe stroke at age 2.

"Brows and Buzz Cuts for Bella" will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 16 at Aura Bella Salon at 20491 Lagrange Road in Frankfort. Anyone who comes by during that time will be treated to free buzz cuts and eyebrow waxing. There will also be refreshments, pizza, beer and wine.

The story of Isabella Byra touched Aura Bella Salon owner Sherri Sulkowski when she heard about it at a recent Lions Club meeting although she had never met the family.

"It broke my heart," said Sulkowski. "There was this perfectly normal girl who at age 2 suffered a severe brain bleed. It struck a cord with me. I knew I had to help her out."

The fact that the girl is called "Bella" - the same name of the salon that's been in Frankfort for three years and was previously in Mokena for nine - was "a sign," Sulkowski said.

"I did a benefit for a little girl who had cancer a couple of years ago and wanted to do something again," she said. "This seemed like the perfect opportunity."

Those who attend Thursday's fundraiser are encouraged to donate anything they can for the cause. No appointments are necessary. Anyone can walk in.

Chef Kaus Bier Stube, Enrico's Pizza and Salon Agape are other local businesses donating money, food and other items to help make the benefit a success.

"We are hoping to get as many people as possible," Sulkowski said. "Hopefully people will be able to open up their wallets because anything will help."
