Sauk Trail-Pfeiffer Road Intersection to Get Four-Way Stop Signs
The Frankfort Village Board approved a measure Monday that allows the creation of a four-way stop at the intersection, which has been a safety concern for some village officials.

The intersection at Sauk Trail and Pfeiffer Road—a safety concern for a few of the Frankfort Village Board trustees and has been the topic of discussion at many a village committee meeting—will be getting four-way stop signs after the approved Monday, June 4, amending the traffic code to allow such a change.

Currently, there is a two-way stop sign on Pfeiffer at the intersection, but . Motorists traveling on Sauk Trail are known to unnecessarily stop, while those traveling along Pfeiffer believe Sauk Trail has a stop sign and try to dangerously cross the intersection when they shouldn't. .

Ideally, Trevarthan said he would like to see a four-way traffic signal installed, but such a change would cost about $300,000, something the village can't afford right now.

Opponents of the stop signs have said that despite concerns about the intersection, . Also, some feel the four-way stop could cause more accidents because Sauk Trail is a major collector road.
The new stop signs will have flashing red lights mounted on them to alert drivers of the change, said Village Administrator Jerry Ducay.

This decision comes almost a week after the installation of traffic lights at the intersection at Laraway Road and 80th Avenue. The signal is part of a Will County-funded road improvement program that is installing lights along Laraway Road intersections. Signals at the Wolf Road and 116th Avenue intersections have been working since last year, and a traffic light at the Center Road junction is set to go online in the fall.
