Siblings Can Smile Pain-Free After Dental Surgery at Silver Cross

Silver Cross will host a free program, "Avoiding Baby Tooth Decay," on Aug. 25.

For years, siblings 5-year-old Natalie, 6½-year-old Hailey, and 3½ year-old Jesse had a severe bacterial infection that decayed their primary teeth. This infection, known as Early Childhood Caries, made their teeth prone to cavities and literally crumble in their mouths.

Natalie and Jesse had endured severe pain when they tried to speak, eat and even smile. After interviewing several dentists, their momma found Dr. Bassel Dulli, who performed full mouth dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia on both children at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Beth and her husband, Jim, knew immediately that Dr. Dulli was the right dentist to perform their children’s complex surgeries.

“Dr. Dulli’s caring demeanor and expertise alleviated all of our concerns,” said Beth Dettmann. “Through the entire process, he was so gentle with our children and answered all of our questions. They actually enjoy going to the dentist now. In fact, Natalie says that Dr. Dulli fixed her teeth and it didn’t hurt!”

With Dr. Bassel Dulli are Marseilles residents and siblings 5 year-old Natalie, 6 ½ year-old Hailey, and 3 ½ year-old Jesse. Dr. Dulli performed extensive, corrective dental surgery on the children at Silver Cross Hospital.

What are Childhood Caries?

Early childhood caries (ECC), also known as baby bottle caries, baby bottle tooth decay, and bottle rot, is a disease caused by severe decay in the teeth of infants or young children. Early childhood caries is a very common bacterial infection.

“Unfortunately, Natalie and Jesse inherited poor quality teeth which were prone to severe early childhood caries,” said Dr. Dulli. “By doing the dental rehabilitation procedure, their rotten teeth were removed, and no longer pose a threat of spreading to any of their healthy teeth. In addition, this procedure enables them to eat and smile pain-free.”

“Dr. Dulli is a wonderful man,” said Beth Dettmann. “We are forever grateful to him and all the nurses at Silver Cross who took such great care of our children.”
