St. Anthony Tackle Football Eliminates Kick-offs to Increase Safety

The Catholic Grade School Conference (CGSC) has announced the elimination of kick-offs from our JV and Varsity levels in the upcoming 2016 season.

The Saint Anthony Fighting Saints are proud to be part of the CGSC and have been addressing the need for higher safety guidelines regarding kickoffs with the league for this upcoming season. We are pleased to see these changes implemented so that we can improve the safety of our players. Rule changes to improve safety have been part of the game of football for as long as it has been played. Based on the current climate surrounding the sport, it is very likely that the children playing on our JV teams in 2016 will be participating in Varsity High School games that do not have kick-offs or have some modified version of the play. The game is going to continue to change and we must change with it. SAFETY OF OUR PLAYERS IS OUR #1 CONCERN.

JUNIOR VARSITY TACKLE: AGES: 5th & 6th Grade (CGSC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS)

Our JV program is a competitive tackle football program that is under the umbrella of the teachings of the Catholic Church. Combining faith and football is critical for this age group. Learning how to play a competitive contact sport with honor and quality is the focus of these programs.

COST: $295.00 + $100 Refundable Equipment Deposit = $395.00

PRACTICE TIMES: Tues, Thursday & Fri evenings, 6-7:30pm at Chelsea Middle School Field

GAME TIMES: Sundays 1:30pm. Home games at Providence High School

SEASON: AUGUST 1st - OCT 31st

WEIGHT GUIDELINES: Up to 105lbs (NO Stripe), 106-120lbs (One Stripe), 121-140 (Two Stripes), Max = 140lbs​

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Must attend St. Anthony's Religious Education Program or Student at St. Mary's, Noonan Academy, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin.
