FRANKFORT, IL — District 1 Illinois Music Educators Association junior auditions were recently held at Summit Hill Junior High and over 850 students from 78 different schools, along with their directors and family members, came to the school to audition for spots in the 2019 ILMEA Festival Band, Choir, Jazz Band and Orchestra, the school said.

Six Summit Hill music students have been chosen for this year's festival, the school said. Elizabeth Hoppenrath (clarinet), Nicholas Smithgall (trombone) and Matthew Zych (euphonium) will represent the band. Kelsey Rasmussen and Abby Salgado will sing with the choir. Lastly, Ella Fisher will play violin in the orchestra.

Directors Kim Coughlin (band) and Katie Goddard (orchestra) said they were thankful for the opportunity to "show off" the school district to so many guests from across the area and to provide the space needed for the auditions to take place.
