Summit Hill Students Win Awards In VFW Essay Contest

Two Summit Junior High seventh graders were finalists in the annual VFW Patriot's Pen Essay Contest.

FRANKFORT, IL — Two Summit Junior High seventh graders were finalists in the annual VFW Patriot's Pen Essay Contest. Elizabeth Hoppenrath and Alex Gorczowski participated in the contest which had a theme of "Why I honor the American flag," the school said.

Both students attended an awards luncheon on April 27 at the Markham VFW Post 9801. According to the school, Gorczowski was the second place winner of the 16th district, which covers the southern suburbs of Cook County. Hoppenrath took first place in the seventh grade division for the district and was also the overall winner.
