Three questions with Hunchback's Nicole Zralka

The LWE junior, who plays the Gypsy Girl in the upcoming Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, answered a few of our questions.

HND Patch caught up with LWE Junior Nicole Zralka, literally between a rehearsal and another audition, and she took a breath and answered a few of our questions about her upcoming show, Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, April 27-29, tickets at lwemusic.org

Nicole, you play a Gypsy girl in this show and you also have a lovely piece that you sing in Tavern Song. This song sounds different to me than the other songs in the musical. Why do you think that is?

Tavern Song is a happy contrast to the darker tone of the entire show. The tavern is a place where people who are ostracized by society can let loose and forget about the hardships of life for a night. It’s personally one of my favorite scenes and it gives us as actors an opportunity to break away from the traditional mold of the show.

I’ve seen you downstairs doing all kinds of extra things for this musical, like making costume boots out of slippers. How did you learn how to do this? Do you have other costume making talents or interests?

Throughout my life I have shown great interest in all things artistic. This includes anything from sewing and fashion to drawing and painting. It has been a great outlet for me to channel all of my creativity, and It was amazing getting to use my skills to help backstage!

What's next for Nicole after this show?

I am currently a junior and I am starting to think about my path after high school. Theatre has always been my passion and I am planning on pursuing a career in the arts. This summer I hope to participate in a production in an outside theatre to increase my resume. I also plan on spending as much time as possible creating art because I am enrolled in AP Art for my senior year.

That sounds like you will continue to busy, Nicole! We look forward to seeing your beautiful performance and your amazing costume pieces at the upcoming production of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame at Lincoln-way East Fine Arts Auditorium April 27 and 28 at 7pm, April 28 at 1pm, April 29 at 3pm. Tickets are $10 at the door one hour before showtime, but we are choosing our own seats and avoiding the lines by going to lwemusic.org to get seats ahead of time! See you there!
