FRANKFORT, IL — A new art exhibit displayed at the Frankfort Village Hall is honoring Frankfort 6-year-old Maggie DeVries, who was diagnosed earlier this year with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, or DIPG—a rare and inoperable brain tumor.

The exhibit, created by the Frankfort Arts Association in collaboration with Frankfort School District 157-C, showcases "Snowflakes of Grand for Maggie." Maggie is a first-grader at Grand Prairie Elementary School.

During Frankfort's Village Board meeting on Monday, Mayor Keith Ogle said students at the school each decorated a paper lunch bag.

"Over 800 lunch bags were collected; the lunch bags were then cut and assembled by Frankfort Arts Association board member and artist Jaime Maisuria to create these 3D snowflakes," Ogle said.

Trustee Margaret Farina said Maisuria did a "fantastic" job.

"It's just really touching, and it really showcases, I think, the spirit of this community coming together for [Maggie] and her family and supporting them. And that's what the spirit of the season is about."

Maggie's family shares updates about her on the Facebook page, "Love for Maggie," and a GoFundMe was also created for the family. All proceeds of the page go to the DeVries family.
