Aldi Buys Vacant Lot Near Current East Side Aldi

The vacant lot is located just steps from Geneva's east side Aldi.

GENEVA, IL -- It's unclear what Aldi Inc. plans to do with a vacant site it recently bought near its east side grocery store in Geneva. Property records show the company purchased the .42-acre lot at 801 E. State Street this past fall for $485,000, according to the Kane County Chronicle. The lot is located on the northwest corner of East State Street and East Side Drive and is just over 300 feet away from the east side Aldi at 975 E. State Street.

The former Orlando's Pizza stands between the current Aldi store and the vacant lot purchased by the company.

Aldi and city officials are not saying, at this point, what Aldi Inc. plans to do with the property, according to the Kane County Chronicle. The Aldi at 975 E. State St. underwent an expansion last year, reopening in November 2017.
