GENEVA, IL — Geneva Park District's Playhouse 38 is getting ready to hold auditions for its summer play, a tribute to those affected by 9/11 and the psychiatrists who helped them.

David Rimmer, a Pulitzer Prize finalist playwright for the coming-of-age play "Album," originally wrote "New York" to raise funds for volunteer psychiatrists who helped those psychologically affected by 9/11. The play depicts 15 people speaking to a central psychiatrist, reacting to the events of that day.

Auditions will be held from 2-5 p.m. June 13 at Playhouse 38, 321 Stevens St.

Thespians can register to audition on the park district's website, using activity code 5211704-67. Those interested can also email Tanya Osika, the cultural arts and recreation coordinator for the park district, at tosika@genevaparks.com to receive an audition time slot.

Those auditioning should prepare a one-to-two minute contemporary monologue. They might also be asked to do cold readings from the script.

Rehearsals for "New York" will be held Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings between June 15 and July 30. Performances take place at 7 p.m. July 31, Aug. 1, Aug. 7 and Aug. 8. Matinee performances, starting at 2 p.m., are scheduled Aug. 2 and Aug. 9.

Tickets will go on sale June 30, costing $15 in advance or $20 day-of. Tickets can be online or in person at Sunset Community Center and Stephen Persinger Recreation Center.

Concessions, including snacks, popcorn, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, will be available for purchase at each performance.
