GENEVA, IL — A Geneva man, 47, died May 28 after he crashed into a tree in the 1300 block of Crissey Avenue, police said.
The driver involved in the single-car crash was identified as Joseph C. Fisher III, officials said.
The Geneva and Batavia police departments and the Geneva Fire Department responded to crash, which was initially reported to Tri-Com Central Dispatch through an Apple iPhone Crash Detection notification around 9:29 p.m.
The preliminary investigation indicated Fisher was driving a 2017 Jeep Renegade north on Crissey Avenue when the car veered off the road and struck a tree. Geneva paramedics extricated Fisher from the SUV and brought him to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:43 p.m.
No passengers were in the car, officials said.
Although details of the crash remain under investigation, Geneva police said there was no indication that the driver was impaired.
A portion of Crissey Avenue was closed for about three hours while first responders worked. The Batavia Police Department provided traffic assistance during the road closure, and the Geneva Public Works Department helped remove debris to reopen the road.
