These Streets Will Close For Swedish Days Festival Weekend

Thousands of people are expected to flock to Geneva at the end of June for the annual Swedish Days Festival.

GENEVA, IL — With two weeks until the bustling Swedish Days Festival returns in Geneva, police are preparing locals and visitors for road closures and parking restrictions.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to Geneva June 24-28 for the annual Swedish Days Festival, featuring food, live music and a plethora of activities.

The main areas that will be impacted by the festival are Third Street from State to South streets; James Street from Second to Fifth streets; and Campbell Street from Second to Fifth streets.

Parking restrictions will be put in place throughout the week. Vehicles parked in the prohibited areas may be ticketed or towed, police said. The following streets will be impacted:

Police will use a drone at various times during the festival to support public safety by providing real-time aerial monitoring, officials said.

The popular Swedish Days Parade will step off at 1 p.m. June 28. This year's procession — organized by State Street Jewelers after the Geneva Chamber of Commerce initially nixed the event — will be a smaller, community-driven version of previous versions.

These streets will be shut down during the parade:

To get around the State Street closure, westbound drivers should plan to head north on Second Street, west on Stevens Street, north on Edison Street, west on Union Street and south on Logan Avenue to resume traveling on the state route. The detour route is reversed for eastbound traffic.
