Roadway Excavation To Begin, Storm Sewer Work Continues: East State Street Reconstruction Update

GENEVA, IL — Construction continues on the East State Street reconstruction project in Geneva, and coming up, roadway excavation is scheduled to begin next week as storm sewer work will progress, city officials said.

Currently, traffic is shifted to the north side of Route 38 from the Fox River to just west of Kirk Road. One lane is open in each direction.

Storm sewer work along the south side of Route 38 continued this week and is expected to wrap up near Kansas Street. A second underground crew focused on storm sewer laterals and curb line structures followed the first crew.

Next week, storm sewer work will progress eastbound from Kansas Street. The second underground crew will work on a storm sewer along the east side of Route 25 south of Route 38.

The upcoming excavation operations and stone placement will take place from Sandholm and Simpson streets.

Drivers should expect temporary daytime closures on side streets along the south side of Route 38, especially at Kansas Street and possibly Sandholm and Simpson streets, officials said. The intersection of Route 25 and East State Street may experience some congestion, but city staff expect traffic to be contained within the existing work zone.

The full reconstruction project is anticipated to be completed in late 2027, with punch list items to be finished the following year.
