GENEVA, IL — Locals and passersby should expect traffic delays on East State Street over the next few weeks as water services will be intermittently installed, Geneva officials said.
The work is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation's project to reconstruct Route 38, adding bike lanes and widening the road, among other improvements.
The water service work on East State Street will also temporarily disrupt access to side streets along the south section of the construction zone.
As of Oct. 2, traffic along East State Street remains shifted to the north side of the road from the Fox River to just west of Kirk Road, with one lane open in each direction.
Last week, water main work was expected to wrap up near Nebraska Street, with a second construction crew installing fire hydrants, service laterals and a water main along side streets. Roadway excavation continued eastbound and was expected to finish near Harrison Street, city officials said.
This week, roadway excavation and water main crews will continue east along the state highway. Archon will continue rehabilitating utility structures near Route 25 and Crissey Avenue.
The full East State Street reconstruction project, happening from Glengarry Drive to the Fox River, is expected to be completed in late 2027, with punch list items to be finished the following year.
