GENEVA, IL — A new water service will be installed starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, and drivers should expect lane closures and traffic delays as a result, city officials said.
Crews will replace the existing lead water service line at 1115 W. State St. with a new copper line.
Westbound traffic will shift beginning at McKinley Avenue to accommodate the work. Cars will be directed into the interior eastbound lane. Eastbound traffic will be down to one lane near Grant Avenue, according to a news release. Arrow boards will be placed at both ends of the work zone to guide drivers through the temporary traffic pattern.
State Street drivers will be prohibited from turning onto Kaneville Road during construction. Drivers will be warned with signs along the road, and barricades will be installed at the intersection. Those using Kaneville Road will still be able to turn onto State Street.
Work is expected to be finished by the afternoon, officials said. Until then, traffic backups are highly likely.
