Another Section Of Fox River Trail Will Close For 2 Months

GENEVA, IL — A second section of Geneva's Fox River Trail will close for two months beginning next week to make way for the construction of a new sanitary sewer river crossing.

The new closure will affect the west side of the trail near the Kane County Government Center on Route 31, south of the Union Pacific-West Railway.

The first section closed at the start of August near the city's Wastewater Treatment Plant, located south of the Union Pacific-West Railway and east of the Fox River.

To navigate the closure, northbound cyclists and pedestrians will use South Third Street, then head east on South Street to reconnect with the Fox River Trail near the pedestrian bridge beneath the train tracks. The detour is reversed for those southbound.

The infrastructure project involves replacing the existing 20-inch sanitary sewer river crossing with two new 20-inch sanitary sewers. The upgrade is designed to reduce the risk of sanitary overflows as the crossing carries all sanitary flow from the west side of Geneva to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
