Applications Open For Geneva Citizen Police Academy

Students will get an overview and insight into the department as well as a behind-the-scenes look at police operations.

GENEVA, IL — Applications are open for the 2023 Citizen Police Academy, giving Geneva residents a chance to learn about their city's police department.

Classes will run weekly from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday nights. The first class is scheduled for Oct. 3, and the final one will take place Dec. 19 at the Geneva Police Department, 20 Police Plaza.

Through the academy, students will get an overview and insight into the department as well as a behind-the-scenes look at police operations, officials said. At previous academies, participants learned about a variety of topics: the police hiring process, use of force, crime scene investigations, tech crime, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, drug education and active shooters.

In order to apply, members must be 21 years or older and be a resident or business owner in Geneva. Applications are available on the city's website or at the police department.

Filled-out applications can be dropped off or mailed to the Geneva Police Department by Sept. 22.
