AT THE HALF: Vikings' Quick Scores Give Them 10-7 Edge

The game turns into a defensive struggle after Geneva's quick field goal and touchdown. Saints grind it out and come back.

A 63-yard kickoff return by Grant Hudson to start the game led to a Viking field goal.

And after the Saints fumbled the ensuing kickoff, quarterback Matt Williams hit tight end Connor Einck on 15-yard touchdown pass for a 10-0 lead with 7:47 still left in the first quarter.

After that, the grass grew on Burgess Field as both teams went to the running game and started grinding it out.

The Saints ground more effectively.

The turning point for the Saints was a fourth-and-3 situation the Saints had the ball on Geneva's 6-yard line. St. Charles East called time out. Then Geneva called time out.

When they came out of the huddle, Saints' 5-8, 180-pound running back Zach Zajicek bulled his way into the end zone to cut Geneva's lead to 10-7.
