Attacker Assaulted Woman Outside Her Apartment on New Year's Day: Police

The man allegedly followed the woman to her apartment door and physically assaulted her. He left after the woman fought back, police said.

BATAVIA, IL - A Batavia woman fought off her attacker following a physical assault outside her apartment during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, police said.

The woman told police she arrived home at about 4:45 a.m. on Jan. 1 when a black man approached her in the lobby of her apartment complex on Batavia’s west side, according to a Batavia Police Department press release. The man began a short conversation and after the woman refused to talk to him, he followed her to her apartment door.

Police said a short struggle followed and the man left after the woman fought back, according to the news release. No injuries were reported by the victim.

The suspect is described as a black male, 35 to 40 years old, clean-shaven and was wearing a black or navy coat and dark pants.

The attack remains under investigation with Batavia police. Anyone who may have heard or seen anything should contact the Batavia Police Department Investigations Division at 630-454-2500.
