Burlington Central Boys Soccer Teams Volunteer, Donate to Marklund

Members of the Burlington Central High School boys soccer teams spent an afternoon volunteering with Marklund clients at its Geneva campus.

Fifty-three Burlington Central HS (BCHS) boys soccer players volunteered at Geneva’s Marklund residential facility for to assist in recreational therapy for Marklund residents, adults with profound developmental disabilities. More than 50 residents enjoyed playing modified baseball and soccer games using an oversized ball, with the help of the High School athletes pushing their wheelchairs. The BCHS players represented the Freshmen, JV and Varsity teams. The athletes also donated money to the nonprofit organization which they had collected during a “Rising Above Limitations” fundraiser at the team’s annual picnic. According to Veronica Schramme, a team parent, ”BCHS chose Marklund for their service project because the boys wished to interact directly with people in need and bring a sports experience into the lives of those with physical limitations.”
