A New Chapter Begins for a Beloved Geneva Landmark: The Geneva Wine Cellars & Tasting Room Becomes a Family-Owned Wine Bar
Geneva, IL — The Geneva Wine Cellar & Tasting Room, a cherished piece of Geneva’s history, is entering an exciting new era as the long-standing wine cellar at 227 S. 3rd Street reopens under new, family ownership. A staple of Third Street since the 1980s and located within the historic Berry House—dating back to the late 1800s—the wine cellar has been thoughtfully reimagined while preserving the charm and community spirit that made it a local favorite for decades.
Now owned and operated by Angela and Jordan Moore, alongside both of their parents—Dale and Lynn Engebretson, and Fatima and Tim Moore—this new chapter is truly a family dream brought to life. Since acquiring the business, the family has spent countless evenings restoring and revitalizing the space, blending its rich history with a fresh, welcoming experience for both longtime patrons and new guests.
“We never imagined this opportunity would come at this point in our lives,” said the owners. “This place already means so much to the Geneva community, and it’s been incredibly special to pour ourselves into bringing it back to life as a family.”
The wine bar continues its legacy as a destination for wine lovers, featuring a curated tasting room experience. Guests can enjoy a rotating menu of 16+ wines by the glass, as well as interactive wine machines offering 1 oz., 3 oz., and 5 oz. pours—perfect for sampling and exploration. Enhancing the experience, the tasting room is proud to have two sommeliers on staff who are passionate about wine education and creating meaningful guest experiences as well as a dedicated event planner.
In addition to its signature tasting offerings, the refreshed space now includes a cozy lounge designed for reservations, small private events and group gatherings. Guests can also enjoy a thoughtfully selected lineup of local beers and simple snacks.
The outdoor patio—now open year-round—serves as a vibrant extension of the space, featuring live music on select days and providing a relaxed atmosphere to gather and unwind in every season.
Looking ahead, the wine bar will also introduce a wine club, offering members exclusive pricing, events, and curated experiences.
With its loyal following, dedicated staff, and renewed vision, the Geneva Wine Cellar & Tasting Room is poised to remain a cornerstone of Geneva’s Third Street for years to come—honoring its past while creating new memories for the future.
The grand opening is set for Mother’s Day weekend, featuring a ribbon cutting with the Chamber of Commerce on Friday, May 8th at 2:30 p.m., along with live music throughout the weekend!
