Crews Strike Natural Gas Line Amid Residential Development Construction: City

Crews were working on the 302 River residential development project when they struck the natural gas line, officials said.

GENEVA, IL — Crews working on the 302 River residential development project struck the natural gas line Tuesday morning, officials said.

After the incident at 7:25 a.m., firefighters tested natural gas levels in the air and determined evacuations were not necessary, according to a news release.

Nicor Gas crews shut down the natural gas line at 10:37 a.m. to repair the damage. The shutdown impacted 11 residences in the area.

Stevens Street from Route 31 to North River Lane will be closed for several hours as Nicor completes the repair. As of 11:30 a.m., all lanes of Route 31 reopened.

City officials said they will share updates as they become available.
