Drug Take-Back Day Initiative Planned For April At Geneva PD

The event gives community members a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs.

GENEVA, IL — The Geneva Police Department will collect unwanted or expired prescription medications as part of National Drug Take-Back Day, officials announced.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22 at the police station, 20 Police Plaza in Geneva.

"The collection service is free and anonymous, no questions asked," officials said.

During the event, which happens bi-annually in April and November, staff will accept prescription medications, used medical sharps, diabetic supplies, vitamins, pet medicine and non-controlled DEA drugs.

Police said they will not accept any liquids, ointments, illegal substances or narcotics, thermometers, IV bags, sharps or needles, bloody or infectious waste, or empty containers.

The event aims to provide community members with a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs. By doing so, it prevents medications from being flushed down the toilet and ending up in the local drinking water supply.
