Dump Truck Spills Gravel Along State Route From Geneva To St. Charles

Geneva officials said the truck wasn't associated with the Illinois Department of Transportation's East State Street reconstruction project.

GENEVA, IL — Rolling lane closures on Route 38 Wednesday afternoon, and continuing into Thursday, were a result of a dump truck spilling gravel, Geneva officials said.

Geneva Public Works crews began cleaning up the debris at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after a dump truck began dropping the gravel near Kansas Street while driving east on the state highway. Police were eventually able to stop the truck on Route 38 in St. Charles.

The highest concentration of gravel fell near the intersection of East State Street and Route 25, according to a news release.

City officials noted the truck was not associated with the Illinois Department of Transportation's East State Street reconstruction project.

Crews removed a majority of the gravel Wednesday, and a Lakeshore Recycling System sweeper was called in to finish the job, officials said. Work continued into the evening rush hour and was expected to resume after 7 a.m. Thursday.
