Fire Hydrant Flushing Scheduled For 3 Weeks In April
Residents are asked to limit their water usage while flushing takes place in their neighborhood, officials said.
GENEVA, IL — Fire hydrants flushing throughout Geneva will begin April 10 and last for three weeks, officials announced.
Hydrants will be flushed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday as part of the city's ongoing maintenance program, which is not only meant to ensure all hydrants are working properly but to improve the overall quality of water by cleaning mains of rust and corrosion, according to the city.
During the process, Geneva officials said water is safe to drink, but residents should let their faucets run for a few minutes if there's any discoloration in the water.

Residents are also asked to limit their water use if possible and hold off on washing clothes to avoid staining from rusty water. If clothes do get discolored, officials said residents should keep their laundry wet and buy rust-removing solution packets.
Signs will be posted in neighborhoods to alert residents that the program is underway in their area. A hydrant flushing map can also be found on the city's website.
