New Sports Bar Opens in St. Charles

The high-end sports bar has received a great and "overwhelming" response from the community in the first weeks since opening.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A new high-end sports bar has opened in downtown St. Charles. Flagship on the Fox, at 100 S. Riverside Avenue, held its grand opening ceremony on June 27. Event coordinator Monica Dees wrote in an e-mail to Patch that the grand opening came after two weeks of soft openings.

"...the response and turn out has been overwhelming from the community," Dees noted. Sports reporter and former NFL running back Jarrett Payton, who recently moved to the St. Charles area, was in attendance at the ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony last week as was Mayor Ray Rogina. Payton is a partner in business, which opened in northern portion of a building that once housed the Chord on Blues, according to the Kane County Chronicle.

Owner Steve Mayer grew up in the Fox Valley region, graduating from high school in Elgin and still has several family members who live in St. Charles.

"The goal was always to start in the city (Chicago) and then out here," he told Patch earlier this year. Mayer is the owner of two other "Flagship" bars, both in Chicago. One is in River North and the other, Lakeview.

Flagship is open from 3 p.m. to midnight on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursdays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to midnight for Sundays. The bar offers a variety of beers on tap, happy hour specials and an expansive menu, which includes a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, including a buffalo chicken and pulled pork grilled cheese; bacon-wrapped shrimp tacos; a Gorgonzola Pear burger; an ahi tuna sandwich and much more.
