Your Guide to This Weekend's Fox Valley Folk Music and Storytelling Fest

There will be over 35 features acts on eight stages at Island Park in Geneva during the two-day festival.

GENEVA, IL - The 40th Annual Fox Valley Folk Music and Storytelling Festival will be held this weekend in Geneva.

The festival will be on Sept. 4 and 5 and Island Park. There will be eight stages with performances running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days. On Sunday, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. there will also be an old-time community barn dance and from 7:30 to 10 p.m., there will be “ghost stories” in the main music stage tent.

The festival will include music by Lou & Peter Berryman, Bryan Bowers, Gina Forsyth, The Freight Hoppers, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Reggie Harris, Sara Grey & Kieron Means, Dan Keding, Herula, Anderlik & Church, Joel Mabus, Eric Lambert & Chris Walz, David Massengill, Lee Murdock & Blue Horizon, Charlie Parr, Red Tail Ring, Bill Robinson & Friends, Small Potatoes, Matt Watroba and Jack Williams. There will also be stories by Dan Keding, Judith Heineman and Daniel Marcotte, Oba William King andThe Fox Valley Storytelling Guild and workshops by Chicago Sacred Harp Singers and Two Way Street Favorites.

Admission is $20 per day for adults and $15 for teens and elders. Those 12 and under are free. There is a $5 discount for both days and family rate of $45 for a mother, father and their children.Free parking is available at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave. in Geneva.

In addition, the festival will host a special night concert on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 102 South Second Street in Geneva. The concert will start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on WFMT Radio --- 98.7 FM. Featured festival artists will perform at the special concert, including Gina Forsyth, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Reggie Harris, Joel Mabus, Lee Murdock, Red Tail Ring and Lou & Peter Berryman.

The admission is $20 for adults paid in advance and $15 for seniors, students and volunteers. The cost is $20 for adults and $25 students, seniors and volunteers at the door. For ticket information, e-mail juelu@aol.com
