Former Geneva 2nd Ward Alderman Dies At 91

In addition to his work in city government, Richard Walls​ opened the Dick's Texaco station at the corner of State and Fourth​ streets.

GENEVA, IL — Richard Walls, a former 2nd Ward alderman in Geneva, died Jan. 18. He was 91.

To honor his death, city officials lowered Geneva's flag to half-staff Monday.

Walls was elected to the aldermanic position in 1967 and held the seat on Geneva City Council for eight years. From there, he went on to serve on the Geneva Public Library Board of Trustees for "many years," according to his obituary.

Beyond his work in city government, Walls was a businessman. He opened the Dick's Texaco station at the corner of State and Fourth streets before selling it to pursue a career in plastics.

"The City of Geneva extends its condolences to the Walls family members for their loss," officials said in a news release Monday.

Visitation for Walls will be held from 3-8 p.m. Feb. 17 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. the following day and will be held at Chapelstreet Church, 2300 South St. in Geneva.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial gifts be directed to The International Justice Mission, an organization on a mission to protect people in poverty from violence.
