Matt Williams, who led the Geneva Vikings as quarterback through his senior year in 2011, has been moved to wide receiver at Northern Illinois University,
according to the NIU football website and The Kane County Chronicle.
Williams is a redshirt freshman, and his passing numbers were pretty good at NIU.
The move is a bit of a surprise, because Williams had a pretty good showing at quarterback in NIU's spring game, completing 6 of 10 passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns on April 13.
But between then and now, coaches decided to go with either Drew Hare or TD Matt McIntosh in the backup QB role.
NIU's lead quarterback, of course, is Jordan Lynch, who led the team to a 12-2 season and the first Bowl Championship Series berth ever earned by a Mid-American Conference team. He also finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting with 52 points.
