Former Geneva Streets Superintendent Keeping Up With Restitution to City

Stephen LeMaire was convicted in 2012 on a theft charge for using a city credit card for his own personal use.

A former Geneva streets and fleet superintendent who was sentenced in 2012 for using a city credit card to rack up more than $24,000 in unauthorized purchases has kept up with his restitution payments, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

Stephen LeMaire pleaded guilty to theft in 2012 and was ordered to pay the city of Geneva $28,478.10 in restitution as part of his sentence. A court ordered he make payments of at least $200 every month.

So far, Lemaire, 57, of Elburn, has paid $7,450 over the course of 26 payments and still owes over $21,000, according to the Kane County Chronicle.

The city credit card charges were discovered when Geneva Public Works Director Dan Dinges checked on some of LeMaire’s expenditures while LeMaire was on vacation. LeMaire served as a public works employee for 33 years.

LeMaire was also sentenced to two-and-a-half years’ probation and 100 hours of community service for the guilty plea.
