Four St. Peter Track Records Fall

Team looking good heading into IESA Sectionals.

In preparation for IESA Sectionals on Saturday, the St. Peter Rockets track team competed in their final regular season Aurora Conference meet with a strong showing at Marmion Academy on Saturday. With a flurry of personal and season best finishes, the team nearly beat rival Holy Cross of Batavia and saw four school records broken in the process.

The morning began with the 50 meter dash and just like that two records were broken. Fifth grader Chloe Totman started the day with a 7.93 second run in the 50, breaking a record that has stood since 2010. Only minutes later sixth grader Liam Devine lined up for his 50 meter dash. His time of 7.62 broke a record set just last season less than one year ago.

Almost simultaneously eighth grader Megan Cahill, with a large St. Peter running resume of her own was on her way to breaking the triple jump school record. With a jump of 28 feet she broke a record that has stood since 2011. Cahill is no stranger to success as she has competed in three IESA State Cross Country State Championship meets including a second place team finish in 2013. She will be competing in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 800 meter run at IESA Sectionals and is vying for a state qualifying finish in both events.

Later that day, perennial top sprint contender Alec Wilson (eighth grade) broke his own 200 meter dash record with a time of 25.31 seconds. Wilson also has a history of success competing in the 100 and 200 meter dash at the 2014 IESA State Track meet finishing in 10th and 12th place respectively. Wilson looks good going into both events at sectionals this season. He also will be competitive in the Long Jump where he is seeded fifth with a jump of 16 feet, 4 inches.

The team will be competing at the IESA Sectional at Plano High School on Saturday. May 16 will wrap up the Rockets’ season with the Aurora Conference Championship meet at Marmion Academy and the IESA State Championship Track meet at Eastside Center in East Peoria.
