“Helping entrepreneurs is something that everyone at the FVEC feels in their core,” says Austin Dempsey, FVEC board president and co-founder. “We all work together to help ensure the sustainability of our local companies and make the Fox Valley the place for business.”

Since its inception in 2010, the FVEC has provided instrumental help for companies throughout the area. The center has helped companies retain nearly 400 and create over 150 jobs, and brought in nearly $2 million in private equity. Their vision is to be an active partner in making the Fox Valley a fertile ground to start up and grow thriving companies that add value to the community.

“Andy Parker (one of the FVEC consultants) is very good at making you think and plan for all aspects of your business,” says Kim Elam, owner of Kimmer’s Ice Cream in St Charles and Wheaton. “Some of these points are ones that I didn’t enjoy dealing with before I met him. Now I’m comfortable creating and executing strategies in all areas of my business.”

The FVEC anticipates being able to help up to 20 more businesses next year and boost the local economy in the long run. Throughout the year the center hosts pitch nights, where local companies can come in and present their businesses to the board and answer any questions the board may have. Check out www.fvec.org for pitch night dates and more information about the FVEC.

About FVEC

The non-profit Fox Valley Entrepreneurship Center concept began in 2010 from a partnership between the Waubonsee Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Center for Business Education Innovation and Development (CBEID). The FVEC promotes an environment in which businesses strive for excellence and innovation is nourished. They accomplish this through CEO training and advisement, strategic introductions and strategic/growth planning across all areas of business. The center supports these programs through private donations and grants. Learn more about the FVEC at www.fvec.org.
