Gas Price Update: Geneva Prices Continue Steady Decrease

GENEVA, IL — Feeling slight pain when looking at prices per gallon of gas has become the new normal as of late. But as high as prices are, they continue to fall, even if only little by little.

While prices in Illinois remain high, the average price for gas is $4.52 per gallon as of Thursday, according to AAA. That's 21 cents cheaper than a week ago and 79 cents lower than the average a month ago.

At around $4.63 per gallon in Kane County, gas prices were slightly above the state average. The national average has fallen to $4.13 as of Thursday.

But it's possible that a slight uptick in gas demand could end the steady drop in prices, according to AAA.

"We know that most American drivers have made significant changes in their driving habits to cope with high gas prices," Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, said in a statement Aug. 1. "But with gas below $4 a gallon at nearly half of the gas stations around the country, it’s possible that gas demand could rise."

With prices still as high as they are, it helps to know which station to visit to save a little.

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in Geneva is selling for $4.65 per gallon at Amstar, 1501 E. State St. Here is what other stations around town are charging:

  • Amoco at 1166 E. State St.; $4.69 per gallon
  • Shell at 1491 E. State St.; $4.69 per gallon
