GENEVA, IL — The average price for a gallon of gas remains steady, data shows.

The reason? A decline in demand and the low cost of oil, according to AAA. For locals preparing to head out during the long Memorial Day weekend, this is a good sign.

"Despite mild weather and a less volatile economic forecast, drivers are not hitting the road and raising gasoline demand to traditional seasonal levels," Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, said in a statement. "It’s possible this is merely the lull before Memorial Day, but it could be a trend that lingers into summer."
