Gas Price Update: Geneva Prices Slightly Above State Average

The average price for gas in Kane County was about $4.47 per gallon Wednesday. Here's where to find the cheapest gas in Geneva.

GENEVA, IL — Just a few months ago, prices at the pump reached a staggering $5.70-some in Kane County. Much to most people's relief, gas prices continue dropping.

The average price for gas in Illinois is $4.32 per gallon as of Wednesday, according to AAA. That's 3 cents cheaper than a week ago and about 70 cents lower than the average a month ago.

The current average in the state is about $1 more than what it was a year ago. Nationally, though, the price has fallen below $4 for an average of $3.94 Wednesday.

At around $4.47 per gallon in Kane County, gas prices were slightly above the state average.

An AAA spokesperson said the decline is primarily due to stable oil prices and fewer drivers than usual fueling up.

"Falling pump prices may eventually lead to more drivers hitting the road again," Andrew Gross said Monday. "But that hasn't happened yet. Instead, many drivers are waiting for prices to fall further before reverting to their typical driving habits."

Declining prices or not, it helps to know which station to visit to save a little.

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in Geneva is selling for $4.39 per gallon at Amoco, 1166 E. State St. Here is what other stations around town are charging:

  • Amstar at 1501 E. State St.: $4.39 per gallon
  • Shell at 1491 E. State St.: $4.49 per gallon
