Geneva AFS Exchange Students Experience Graduation Sunday, May 28, 2017
AFS Exchange Students in Geneva
AFS exchange students, Nina Breuer from Germany, Ernesto Figueroa from Guatemala, Elyssa Jamaludin from Malaysia, Olga Pietila from Finland, Rin Tanaka from Japan and Yolene Thefaut-Subery from France all walked in graduation Sunday with the graduating Geneva High School students. The last 10 months have been filled with many wonderful experiences for them and the generous host families who opened their homes to these teens from around the world. At Geneva High School they have participated in clubs, tutored peers, and joined sports teams. They have also enriched the community by making presentations about their country in local schools and scout meeting, by volunteering at Hesed house, picking prairie seeds at Fermilab, and volunteering at Feed My Starving Children, Northern Illinois Food Bank and UMCG 3rd Tuesday Suppers to name a few of their many contributions.
The AFS Northern Illinois Team congratulates them and wishes them well as they return home at the end of the month. AFS volunteers are currently seeking host families for the students who will be arriving in August for the next school year. If you would like to open your home to a teen from another country and join us in working toward a more just and peaceful world, please go to www.afsusa.org and check out the international and intercultural learning opportunities that await your family!
While there, you can also explore the great programs AFS offers for American students to travel and study abroad in dozens of countries.
