The City of Geneva is looking for a dedicated resident to fill a vacancy on the Fire & Police Commission.

The three-member panel is tasked with all full-time police officer and firefighter hirings with the Geneva Police and Fire departments, with the exception of the chiefs. The board conducts all entrance and promotional examinations required by law. The term limits are three years.

Residents interested in serving on this commission should submit an application along with a letter of interest by Friday, Nov. 22 to Mayor Kevin Burns, Geneva City Hall, 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134. The envelope should include a reference to the Geneva Fire & Police Commission.

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements in order to be considered for the position:

  • Be a legal U.S. citizen;
  • Live in Geneva for a minimum of one year;
  • Be a registered voter;
  • Have no felony convictions; and
  • Be current on taxes and payments to the City.

Mayor Burns will review all the applications and bring forward a nomination to the City Council.
