Geneva Police Warn of ComEd Phone Scam
On Wednesday, callers posing as ComEd reps targeted six different residents over a two-hour period, police said.

The Geneva Police Department is warning resident about a telephone scam where callers posing as ComEd representatives threaten to disconnect power service unless late payments are made over the phone. Within a two-hour period on Wednesday, June 20, six Geneva electric customers reported receiving suspicious "ComEd" phone calls.
"These calls are a scam, and people should not make a payment or provide financial information to the caller," according to a news release from the city of Geneva.
Commonwealth Edison is not Geneva’s electric utility provider. The city owns and operates its own electric utility and would not call or demand payment over the phone, police said.

"If people are unsure as to whether the call is legitimate, they should advise the caller they will need to contact them later, hang up and then check their account status."
