Geneva School District Announces Retirements, Appointment of New Assistant Superintendent

Geneva School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andrew Barrett to Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching, effective July 1, 2015.

Dr. Barrett joined Geneva School District in 2006 as principal of Mill Creek Elementary School and was appointed Director of Learning and Teaching in 2011.

As Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching, Dr. Barrett will direct the curriculum, instruction, and student assessment functions of the district

His priority is building collaborative professional relationships,” said Geneva CUSD 304 Superintendent Dr. Kent Mutchler. “As a seasoned leader in our District, Dr. Barrett has proven to be student focused and a team worker with staff. Dr. Barrett has a record of working for continuous improvement in a manner that ties well with the various aspects of our Tradition of Excellence.”

Dr. Barrett is a graduate of Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, where he earned a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. He holds a master’s in Educational Leadership from Aurora University and a doctorate in Educational Policy, Organization, and Leadership from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

The position of Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Teaching is being vacated by Patty O’Neil, who will retire at the end of the school year after nine years with the District. The appointment of Dr. Barrett to Assistant Superintendent will create an administrative vacancy for the position of Director of Learning and Teaching.

In addition, Craig Collins, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and Elizabeth Janowiak, Director of Technology, will also retire at the end of the current school year with 29 and 18 years of service to Geneva 304, respectively.
