Geneva Surrogate Delivers First Delnor Baby of New Year for Same-Sex Couple

Geneva mom, Tara, was a surrogate for a same-sex couple from France. Their baby was born on Jan. 1 at Delnor Hospital.

Not only was Nathaniel the first baby born in the New Year at Delnor Hospital, but he had a very special story even before he came into this world.

A same sex couple from France, Jimi and Antoine Goninan, enlisted a search firm to try and find someone to carry their child since surrogacy is illegal in France, CBS Chicago reports.

The couple ended up with an egg donor from California and Geneva mom, Tara, as their surrogate, according to the news report. The couple flew into Chicago prior to the birth and stayed with Tara and her family.

“We actually missed the birth because we left the room for them to do an epidural and within those ten minutes, before they could even do the epidural, he came out,” Jimi told WBBM’s Nancy Hardy in an interview.

Nathaniel was born at 8:43 p.m. on Jan. 1 -- Delnor's first baby of the New Year -- and he weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces. He was 21 inches long.
