Geneva Teachers Will Not Strike Tuesday

Meanwhile, the next negotiation session between school officials and the Geneva Education Association is set for Wednesday.

GENEVA, IL – Geneva teachers are not expected to go on strike today, which marks the first day the local educators could have legally gone on strike. The Geneva Education Association requested parents and students to pack Monday's school board meeting to urge educators to consider teacher's wishes for its contract moving forward, according to information posted on the GEA website. The teacher's union is seeking a step and lane schedule for teachers, which ups their salary based on their education level and years of experience.

Following Monday's meeting, GEO President Kevin Gannon said teachers would not go on strike Tuesday and would instead give the board of education "some time to reflect on the comments from the community this evening," according to the Daily Herald. He also said the union would give parents adequate notice before a strike – if it comes to that.

The next negotiation session for teachers' contracts is Wednesday.
